Information We Collect

• Contact Form Data: name, email address, and the message you submit.
• Problem Reports: when you report a problem on the map, we receive the type of problem, your note, your email address if you give one, the spot and map position you were looking at, your screen size, and your browser's user agent. Your IP address is used only to limit how many reports can be sent, and appears in the report as a short one-way hash, never in full. Reports are emailed to us and not stored anywhere else.
• Anti-spam Data (CAPTCHA): verification tokens and limited technical details (e.g., IP address, user agent) necessary to verify that a submission is from a human.
• Maps & Map Assets: when we display maps or tiles, your device requests map resources directly from our map provider (Mapbox), which can process your IP address and basic device information to deliver those resources and prevent abuse.
• Optional Geolocation: if you choose “My Location,” your browser may share your approximate or precise location with WorldPeeks to center the map for you. We do not store your location server-side.
• Log/Usage Data: basic, non-sensitive information produced by your browser when you access the site (e.g., page requests). We do not sell this data.

How We Use Your Information

• To reply to your inquiries and provide support.
• To protect the site from spam/abuse (via CAPTCHA and other safeguards).
• To operate features like maps and improve our content and UX.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Legal Bases (GDPR)

• Legitimate interests: preventing abuse and operating core site features (CAPTCHA, map tiles).
• Contract / Pre-contractual: responding to messages you send through the contact form.
• Consent: where required by law (e.g., if we add analytics or non-essential cookies in the future).

Third-Party Service Providers

We use trusted providers to deliver parts of our service:

• Resend – sends email messages submitted via our contact form and problem reports. Messages may be processed by Resend to deliver them to our inbox. See Resend’s privacy policy for details.
• Cloudflare Turnstile – provides CAPTCHA verification to distinguish humans from bots. Turnstile processes tokens and limited technical details for verification purposes.
• Mapbox – delivers map tiles and related assets for our map features. When your browser loads a map, Mapbox may receive requests from your device (e.g., IP address and user agent) to serve tiles and prevent abuse.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We aim to use privacy-respecting defaults and only the data needed to provide the feature.

Geolocation

Geolocation is entirely optional. If you choose “My Location,” your browser may share your approximate or precise location with WorldPeeks. We use this only to center the map for your current session. We do not persist your location on our servers. You can deny permission at any time.

You can revoke location access via your browser or device settings (e.g., “Site settings > Location”). If permission is denied or revoked, map features remain available without centering on your location.

Cookies & Local Storage

WorldPeeks does not use advertising or analytics cookies at this time. Limited functional storage (such as UI preferences) may be used to improve your experience. If we add analytics or additional cookies later, we will update this notice and obtain consent where required.

Data Retention

• Contact messages: kept only as long as needed to respond and maintain records, then deleted or archived safely.
• Problem reports: kept in our inbox only as long as needed to fix the problem, then deleted. Rate-limit counters expire within a day.
• Anti-spam / verification data: kept only as long as necessary to validate the request (often minutes to days, depending on provider defaults).

International Transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries outside your own. Where applicable, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) or provider compliance programs.

Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., EU/EEA, UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object or request data portability. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we strive to use industry-standard safeguards.

Children’s Privacy

Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
