Cookies and Storage
Last updated: October 18, 2026
- WorldPeeks sets no cookies, and neither do the services it uses.
- Some features keep small notes in your browser’s local storage, such as the places you save. They never leave your device unless our privacy policy says so.
- Everything listed here is needed for a feature you use or to keep out spam, so there is nothing to accept and no cookie banner.
- No advertising, no tracking, and our visit statistics store nothing on your device.
Cookies and local storage
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser and that is sent back with every request. Local storage is similar, but it stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere by itself. EU law treats both the same way: a site may store what is strictly needed for a feature you asked for, or for security, and needs your consent for anything else.
What WorldPeeks keeps
In this site’s local storage, only when you use the feature, and readable only by this site in your browser:
wp:saves:v1The spots and trails you save, and when you saved them.
Until you unsave them or clear the site’s data.
wp:map-lookYour map style (standard or satellite) and light setting.
Until you change it or clear the site’s data.
wp:recent-searches:v1Your last 8 searches on the map.
Until you clear them or the site’s data.
wp:places:v1:…Places Mapbox found for a search, so the same search is instant.
One day.
wp:contact-draftA contact message you have started but not sent, so a refresh does not lose it.
Until you send or empty it.
worldpeeks_quiz_stats_…Your best score, attempts and average on each quiz.
Until you clear the site’s data.
What other services keep
Mapbox, in this site’s local storage, written by Mapbox’s map library, when the map loads:
mapbox.eventData.uuid:…, mapbox.eventData.uuidTimestamp:…, mapbox.eventData:…A random identifier and its date, which Mapbox uses to count map loads. It does not identify you.
The identifier is replaced every 24 hours.
Cloudflare Turnstile, in Cloudflare’s own storage (challenges.cloudflare.com), on the Contact page only:
cf.turnstile.uPart of the spam check that keeps bots from sending the contact form.
Set and cleared by Cloudflare.
YouTube, in YouTube’s own storage (youtube-nocookie.com), only after you press play on a video:
yt-player-bandwidth, ytidb::LAST_RESULT_ENTRY_KEY, yt-icons-last-purged and similarSettings and performance data for YouTube’s video player.
Set and cleared by YouTube, under Google’s privacy policy.
Our visit statistics (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights) use no cookies and store nothing on your device.
Your choices
The quickest way to delete what WorldPeeks keeps here is this button. It works at once and sends us nothing:
Removes your saved places, map settings, recent searches, an unsent message, quiz scores and the map’s daily identifier from this browser. It cannot be undone.
Cloudflare’s and YouTube’s items are kept in their own storage, out of the button’s reach; to remove them too, clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings (usually under Privacy, then Site settings or Cookies and site data). You can also block local storage for this site. Everything still works without it, but your saved places, settings and recent searches are then forgotten when you close the page.
If we ever add a cookie or storage item that is not strictly needed, such as for advertising, we will list it here and ask for your consent before setting it.
